I was involved in a charity fundraising event with the organisation ConeXação, raising funds for two children’s cancer charities, one based in Salford, UK and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event, based in Manchester, was an exhibition of Brazilian culture in the form of a Brazilian party, with typical decoration, drinks and music to reflect the theme.
As an active member in the organisation, I volunteered to design the logos, signage, and promotional posters & flyers for the event.
The design brings together the number of stereotypical images on the theme of a ‘holiday in Brazil’, the jetsetter destination, the tropical beach, the carnival girls, whilst borrowing elements from the flag of Brazil, the stars, emblem and blue globe.
The newly formed fundraising organisation ConeXação is the brainchild of four students from four distinct nationalities from Manchester University. The idea of the organisation is to create a connection between two children’s cancer charities; Kidscan, based in Salford, UK and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The name ConeXação is formed by the combination of two words in Portuguese; conexão meaning ‘connection’ and ação meaning action. The resulting named can be read to mean ‘action through connection’.
The principle role of the organisation is to raise funds through ‘cultural exchange’ events, all of which will be donated to the charities. The hope is that a bond of understanding will form between the two charities of common goals, which will enable to exchange of knowledge, of scientific breakthroughs and new method of treatment of cancer.
The first event in a new series was a Brazil-themed party held in Manchester showcasing Brazilian art, dress and music. I volunteered my services to create the signage and decoration for the party.
